I'm not saying this is necessarily the case, but lying to secure a PFA/restraining order to make one party of a custody dispute look like a piece of shit is a very common, dirty trick that's easy to do because (in my state anyway) there is functionally no standard of proof, no due process, and no opporunity to defend oneself/speak on your own behalf when someone files for a Protection From Abuse (PFA, or more commonly, "restraining") Order against you.įamily law is ugly as fuck, and frivolous PFAs would be in every domestic court playbook if there was one.
